Thank you for your interest to apply for the Ameren Illinois Energy Efficiency Summer Internship Program! The information below covers key topics about the application process. If you have questions, please contact workforce@ameren.com.

If your business or organization would like to apply for an intern through the Summer Internship Program, you must complete your application by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 12.

Details needed for the application include:

  • Your company’s information including name, business type and address where intern will work (must be in Ameren Illinois service territory).
  • Your contact information and your role with the company.
  • A detailed description of the internship role including the job description, duties and responsibilities and qualifications.
  • A summary of costs to be covered by the Ameren Illinois Energy Efficiency Program to successfully employ a summer intern.
    • This includes hourly wages, number of hours intern will work per week, total weeks the intern will work and the equipment necessary for the intern to perform their daily job duties (ex: uniform, laptop, mileage stipend, etc).

Job Description

National Energy Foundation (NEF) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational organization based in Salt Lake City, Utah. NEF achieves its mission through the implementation of student and teacher education programs focused on energy and through the custom development of premier instructional materials. We are looking to hire an intern to support workforce development programs related to energy efficiency. This is an entry-level position that will introduce this candidate to careers in energy efficiency as it relates to education.

Job Duties

  • Perform work responsibility under the direction of the program manager and director.
  • Assist in the design and creation of marketing materials.
  • Support program enrollment, recruitment and implementation.
  • Become proficient in program management software.
  • Provide research support for various energy efficiency topics.
  • Attend and provide technical support on webinars.

Qualifications

  • Proficient computer skills in Mac platform, Excel, Word, Google Suite and other software as needed.
  • Willingness to learn about new topics in energy efficiency and flexibility to support multiple programs.
  • Interest in education, energy efficiency or utility industry demand side management.

Hourly Rate: $20

Weekly Hours Worked: 32

Number of Weeks Worked: 10

Other Expenses – (background check, uniform and shoes, mileage stipend): $240

The Ameren Illinois Energy Efficiency Program Market Development Initiative will provide the funds outlined in your application if you are selected to participate in the Summer Internship Program.

  • Provide interns with valuable work experience that is relevant to obtaining a full-time position in the energy efficiency field.
  • Increase your staff and assist interns to develop new skills, while refining others.
  • Interns apply knowledge gained from coursework to on-the-job situations.
  • Create and expand employment opportunities in energy efficiency.
  • Provide mentorship to new industry employees.
  • Add new staff with no extra cost, as funding is provided by the Ameren Illinois Energy Efficiency Program.
  • Get a feel for if this individual is a good fit for your company long term.
  • A typical work week will be a combination of on-the-job training and daily job responsibilities.
  • Interns will be required to work 30-40 hours a week and attend 6 weekly one-hour webinars during the summer.
  • Two in-person meetings that interns and their supervisor are invited to attend. The kickoff will be in June and the wrap-up celebration will be in August.
  • Two in-person volunteer events for the interns, we ask that each intern attends at least one event, though they are welcome to attend both. Lunch will be provided.
  • The Ameren Illinois Energy Efficiency Program does not evaluate interns for performance. We do ask to be informed about any performance issues so that we may provide assistance where possible. Our team is available to support you with any questions, though the intern is ultimately your employee.
