
Healthier Homes Initiative
Improve the quality of the indoor air you breathe and lower your energy costs for FREE through the Healthier Homes Initiative by Ameren Illinois.

The Healthier Homes Initiative is a no-cost program providing eligible Ameren Illinois residential customers with home upgrades and minor repairs to improve safety, comfort, indoor air quality and overall home health.
Eligible customers may receive energy efficiency improvements to their home such as air sealing, insulation, lighting replacement, ventilation and moisture control measures and other safety measures.
Upgrades and minor repairs are based on an assessment conducted by qualified contractors.

You could be eligible if you meet the following criteria:
- Live in a single-family home (A single-family home is a free-standing residential building. Single-family homes are designed to be used as a single-dwelling house or duplex.)
- Must be an Ameren Illinois residential customer in Peoria, Tazewell, Vermilion, Macon or Champaign Counties.
- Must be an Ameren Illinois residential customer heating your home with gas or electricity delivered by Ameren Illinois.
- Maximum gross annual household income at or below the amount listed for your area below.
- May be referred by a healthcare organization.

What if I don't live in an eligible county?
You may still be eligible for other home energy upgrades through additional Initiatives.
What if I don't qualify based off my income?
There are more savings opportunities available for customers who don’t qualify based off income.
I rent my house. Do I still qualify for the Healthier Homes Initiative?
Possibly. If you meet the eligibility criteria for the Initiative, and you are a renter with an Ameren Illinois account in your name, then you can still complete the application.
After completing the application, the next step would be for your landlord to complete a the Healthier Homes Property Owner Consent Form to allow permission for your rental to participate in the Initiative.
If my application is accepted, how is it determined which upgrades and minor repairs will be done?
Through a home assessment, your home will be inspected by trained and certified Program staff. After a full inspection, a work order will be created that outlines the type of upgrades and minor repairs that were identified in the assessment.
Do upgrades and repairs include work like replacement roofs, new siding and plumbing?
The Initiative only allows for upgrades and minor repairs. That does not include full-on construction such as roof replacement, extensive plumbing or siding.
Who does the work?
Upgrades and minor repairs under the Healthier Homes Initiative are performed by contractors who are enrolled with the Ameren Illinois Energy Efficiency Program, also known as Program Allies. They have been trained and vetted and understand the standards of quality required for their work to remain in the Program.
Is all the income in my household counted?
In order for your home to be eligible for the Healthier Homes Initiative, the entire household income must be included.
What happens after the upgrades and minor repairs are finished?
After the work in your home is completed, a final inspection takes place to ensure that everything was completed and completed to our quality standards.
Will I receive new windows?
Window replacements are not eligible under the Healthier Homes Initiative.
