Whether providing diapers for newborns, vaccinations to senior citizens or services to build stronger families, East Side Health District is devoted to improving quality of life for underserved citizens in the Metro East area.
Every year, their team provides much-needed services to more than 60,000 people. Funds to complete this important work are precious and limited, so the District is always looking for ways to reduce operational costs — and the Ameren Illinois Energy Efficiency Program was there to help.
East Side Health District received a free Energy Assessment which identified more efficient lighting options at three District locations. Then they worked with Lowry Electric, an Ameren Illinois Program Ally contractor, to complete the LED lighting upgrades through the Small Business Direct Install (SBDI) Program.
The cost of the LED project rang in at more than $20,000, but thanks to incentives and other offers from the Ameren Illinois Energy Efficiency Program, the District received the LED lighting at no cost. In addition, East Side Health District will save nearly $6,000 a month in energy costs — freeing up much-needed funds for critical health and education programs.
“We are in an area with a lot of need,” explains Michael Dill, Safety Coordinator at East Side Health District. “Those monthly savings will help us provide services to kids and everyone in this area. That money will help out quite a bit in the long run.”
We’re a non-profit organization, and most of our services are provided free of charge. We would never have been able to do this project withough the incentives from Ameren Illinois.”

Unlike the old fluorescent bulbs that frequently fizzled out, the new LED bulbs will last much longer, saving time and maintenance costs. Beyond cost savings, the new LED lighting provides a brighter, more welcoming environment for staff and patients alike.
With help from the Ameren Illinois Energy Efficiency Program, East Side Health District is enjoying a better quality of light while improving the quality of life of those they serve.
