On behalf of Ameren Illinois, I would like to welcome you to the Ameren Illinois MDI Summer Internship Program! For almost ten years, the Ameren Illinois MDI has been leading the way in energy efficiency and clean energy while helping thousands of customers improve comfort, manage usage and reduce costs. We are so excited to have you, employers and interns, participate in the Summer Internship Program. Over the new few months, interns, you will have the opportunity to learn more about career opportunities in clean energy and energy efficiency while developing new skills through hands-on experiences. The Ameren Illinois Summer Internship Program connects businesses and organizations with talented interns pursuing careers in clean energy. This section provides everything you need to know to apply as an employer, including requirements, benefits, and FAQs.
Employer Application Requirements
If your business or organization would like to hire an intern through the Summer Internship Program, you must submit your application by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 3, 2026.
Your application will include
Company Information:
- Business name, type, and address where the intern will work
- Note: Your company must operate within the Ameren Illinois service territory.
Contact Information:
- Your name, role, and preferred contact details.
Internship Details:
- A clear job description, including duties, responsibilities, and qualifications.
- Estimated hourly wage and weekly hours (interns typically work 30–40 hours per week).
- Recommended minimum duration: 10-12 weeks.
- Equipment or resources needed for the intern to perform daily duties (e.g., uniform, laptop, mileage stipend).

How and when will I be paid?
Payments are made based on an invoice submitted by your company. Details will be provided upon approval. Funds are not paid upfront.

Congratulations on being selected for the Summer Internship Program! This experience is designed to help you gain hands-on skills, explore clean energy careers, and build professional connections. Below is everything you need to know as an intern.
What to Expect
Work Schedule
- Interns typically work 30–40 hours per week for a minimum of 10 weeks.
- Your schedule will be determined by your employer. Communicate early about start/end times and any flexibility needed.
Program Activities
- Attend two in-person program events:
- Kickoff Event – June (date and location to be announced)
- Wrap-Up Celebration – August (date and location to be announced)\
- Participate in one volunteer event (lunch provided). You are welcome to attend both scheduled volunteer events.
- Complete six weekly one-hour webinars during the summer.
